I see beauty in unusual places

Everyday Gifts: iPhone Photographs Sublimated on Aluminum

Elusive, and sometimes puzzling designs on posts, markings of a math class on a sidewalk, or patterns on street crossings, speak to me and engage my imagination. I hear a symphony of voices in graffitti and the walls that contain them, and find beauty on the remains of aged posters on equally aged walls.

Many of the images in this series, I encountered on my walks while traveling. Without looking for them, and before lifting them out of their context, they called me in, and catching my eye invited me to pause and take them in for what they are: Everyday Gifts in these times when we seldom take any time to dwell in the beauty and details that surrounds us even in the heart of cities, driveways and pavement.

Sometimes, I play with my food

Repurposed Ingredients

This body of work comprises a selection from many photographs I began taking the day I decided to play with the food scraps I was setting aside to take out to my compost pile. Once I began I could not stop. Shapes, color, and texture began to speak to me, excite my imagination and interrupt many a meal preparation.   While challenging the universal admonishment “do not play with your food,” I began re-arranging food scraps and in the process, these repurposed ingredients were born with nuances, personalities, and styles of their own.
